Returns & refunds

Last updated: October 2026

Every book is made for one child

There is no stock on a shelf. Each book is written around your child's name and look, then printed and bound for that one order. Because of that, a book cannot be cancelled or returned once printing has started. This is the exception for personalised goods in the United Kingdom's consumer regulations: the usual 14-day right to change your mind does not apply to items made to your specification.

You see every page before you pay

That is why we show you the whole book first. Before you pay, you can read every page, check the spelling of the name, the dedication and how your child looks. Please check them carefully: once you confirm, those details are printed as shown, and a mistake in them is not something we can take back or reprint for free.

Damaged, misprinted or faulty books

If your book arrives damaged, misprinted or faulty in any way, that is on us. Tell us within 14 days of delivery and include a photo of the problem, and we will print and send a replacement at our cost. If a replacement is not possible, we refund the order in full. You do not need to send the faulty book back.

If your book does not arrive

Printing and delivery normally take a couple of weeks. If your book has not been delivered within 40 days of ordering, you can cancel and we refund you in full.

How refunds are paid

Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 14 days of our agreeing the refund. Your bank or card provider may take a few more days to show it.

How to reach us

Email hello@madeoftales.com with your order number and, for a damaged or misprinted book, a photo. We reply within two working days.
